ICSE principals to share dais at all-India meet

MUMBAI: Change is what everybody abhors, yet it is the only thing that brings about development. With this idea in mind, the Ryan International Group of Institutions (RIGI) is conducting one of India's largest educational conferences under the aegis of the Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (ASISC).

More than 1,200 principals from ICSE schools across the country will participate in the event, to be held on November 24-26 at the Renaissance Convention Centre.

"We chose 'Be the change' as the theme for this year's conference, because this event is not only about discussing issues, but also about bringing positive development in the system. The association is always open to suggestions from schools," said Francis Joseph, executive head (strategy), RIGI.

The conference is held at a different location each year. "The principals get to discuss various issues they face throughout the academic year and share their concerns and recommendations with the association. The association too gives recommendations," Francis said.

On the agenda this time are: knowledge collaboration among schools, the media's implication on school leadership and sports education. "We have invited eminent people like Dr Kiran Bedi, Harsha Bhogle, Mukesh Sharma (of the All India Radio) and many more from various education and sports academies," Francis said.

"The association, through its various programmes, has strengthened the fraternity of principals with great ideals and concrete plans of action. With its emphasis on co-curricular activities, new concepts, innovative technologies and new methods of teaching, the association has always supported the staff and students of the affiliated schools," said Gerry Arathoon, additional secretary, officiating chief executive and secretary council for ISCE.

Carl Laurie, principal, Christ Church School, Byculla, is looking forward to the conference. "This is an annual meeting for ICSE schools across India, so there is a faint chance of admission policies in Maharashtra being discussed. But issues under the Right to Education Act might be taken up for discussion," he said.

The conference will be inaugurated by governor K Sankaranarayanan. Also present will be N Chandrasekaran (CEO & MD, TCS), Grace Pinto (MD, RIGI), Dr H T Sangliana (vice chairman, National Commission for Minorities) and Neil O'Brien (chairman, CISCE).
