National Minority vice chairman Pu H.T Sangliana

Aizawl, March 30 : Vice Chairman of National Commission for Minorities Pu Hmar Tlomte Sangliana who recently toured Mizoram reportedly told the student community not to take part in politics.

The former parliamentarian during an interaction with students during his visit to Mizo Student Union office on March 26  said that it was “better for students to work for the betterment of students”.

“Students are future of Mizoram and it is you who can make changes in the system, but as students you must put your first priority for the students’ welfare and not on politics,” Pu Sangliana told the student leaders.

The student leaders also expressed desired for conversion of the quota reserved for Other Backward Classes into the share of Scheduled Tribes. “Since there are no Other Backward Classes in Mizoram, the demand is very logical,” the students claimed.

The discussion also covered post matric scholarship for tribal students, student loan from the banks and study tour and excursion for the students outside the state. Pu Sangliana has promised the students that he will look into the issues of the demands
