Habibullah appointed NCM chairperson

New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) Ending months of suspense, thegovernment has appointed former Chief Information CommissionerWajahat Habibullah as the Chairperson of the NationalCommission for Minorities.

Besides, Keki N Daruwalla has been appointed as a newMember of the national minority body, an official release saidhere today.

Expressing happiness over the new appointments, ViceChairman of NCM H T Sangliana said,"The full body of thecommission is in place with the new appointments and we hopeto better our performance under the leadership of the new NCMChairperson."

As per the notification issued by the Ministry ofMinority Affairs, Habibullah will hold office for a period ofthree years with effect from the date of assumption of office.

The post was lying vacant in the crucial body forminorities after the term of former NCM Chairman ShafiQureshi''s term had expired on September 2 last year. It tookthe government around four months to appoint a new Chairpersonfor NCM.

Harvendra Singh Hanspal, Spalzes Angmo, Syeda BilgramiImam, and Vinod Sharma are other members in the Commission.

Daruwala is a representative from Parsi community for theCommission. He replaces Mehroo Dhunjisha Bengalee, whoseterm was also over last year.
